WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO AT THE CCVMP

Sometimes those of us in the CCVMP Association stay so involved with preparing the Park to receive plaques, selling and installing plaques, that we overlook the deep and meaningful family connections that our labors support and actually make possible.

Wendell Furr (a Vietnam veteran) received a plaque as a Christmas gift in 2015 from his daughter (Stacy Furr and step son Jody Allgood).  While visiting from Las Vegas in 2016, Jody was given a tour of the Park along with Wendell's grandsons Turner and Ross Martin.  This happens hundreds of times each year when families gather.  In years to come Turner and Ross will bring their grandchildren here to this spot where they can learn that Freedom is Not Free - and that their Great Grandfather was one that paid for it!

I hope that this little reminder of the end results of all your efforts add meaning to your celebration of Christmas!!!   Don

Note from Editor:  I want to take it a step further and add that if you honor your Revolutionary Patriot with a plaque, you can take the history lesson and family legacy back more than two hundred years.

Fountain Dedication 5-24-2008

"We dedicate this fountain to the veterans and their families, who served this country honorably and gave us the freedoms we enjoy. We honor their sacrifices and brave service.
They are our heroes!"
"Almighty God, as we meet together, we pause to give you thanks for your abiding presence in our country. We thank you for our forefathers who established this great nation and gave us the opportunity to live in freedom. Guide us and direct us to wise decisions that we might continue the legacy left to us by all those
who, throughout our history, labored to preserve our American Heritage and way of life. We pray your continual blessing upon our veterans and armed forces. Protect us against all that threatens our nation's welfare, and keep us always in your warm embrace and loving care. In your holy name we pray. Amen."

Remembering Bill Cowart: He served as Chaplain of the CCVMP and was a regular and faithful Chaplain!
At our Memorial Day Program on May 24, 2016, Chaplain Bill Cowart read my dedication speech – since I was at home with a broken leg!  The Community Foundation gave us a $20,000 matching grant to build the fountain - this was the first added feature to the Park.
Thank you Bill for your service!                                                            -Violette Denney

ROGER KNOWLES IS THANKED FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK

Director Roger Knowles (right) finished his term as Director of the Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park and was presented a plaque in recognition of his service.  The plaque was presented by President Don Levans.  Knowles has served faithfully for many years and has now retired from his most recent job as Director.  We look forward to his continued support of the Veterans Park.

THANK YOU GAIL LIGGETT FOR YOUR SERVICE

Gail Liggett retired from her Secretary position on the board and was presented an "Appreciation Plaque."  This is always a good thing to do and cost very little to show appreciation for a job well done!  Thank you Gail and we hope you will continue to serve our Veterans.  President Don Levans recognized her and presented the plaque at the November CCVMP meeting at the Brookdale Senior Living facility where the Park Committee was honored with dinner.
