U.S. FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY

The ceremony will be May 17, 2014 (Armed Forces Day), at the Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park. The time for flag collection will be from 10 A.M. until 3 P.M. and the Flag Retirement Service  will start at 3 P.M. It will be a very detailed military ceremony with each step being explained - beginning with the raising of the U.S. flag. It will then be lowered while a bugle plays.  Four people will hold the corners flat, slanting toward the crowd.  The chaplain will read about the 13 folds while it is actually being folded.  It will then be unfolded and the red and white stripes will be cut out individually with scissors.  Each stripe will be carried in the arms of a messenger to the fire pit until all stripes are burned.  The blue field of stars is left intact and burned last. Only one flag will be burned during the ceremony and it will be a symbol for all the flags being retired.  A private event will be held to burn the rest of the flags collected.

The flag deposit box is located at the CCVMP and flags to be retired can be deposited there anytime.

In case of rain, the ceremony will be held on Flag  Day (June 14th).   Watch for more details later!

DINNER AT HORIZON BAY

Horizon Bay Vibrant Retirement Living Home hosted a wonderful dinner for the Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park Committee.  There were 56 present and everyone was impressed with the service and the delicious dinner.  Chef James Morris did an outstanding job preparing and helping to serve this big group.  Sales and Marketing Manager Jenny Leibowitz welcomed everyone and answered questions about the facility.  She enjoys serving and making her guests feel special.
President Don Levans led the discussion about the Park and some future concerns and additions that we need to address.  Bill Maddox reported that the annual audit has been completed.  Pictured: from the left are Chaplain Will Smith, Ronnie Pate, Dale Robinson, Wayne Driver, Jenny Leibowitz, Ron Knowles, Don Levans, and Bill Maddox.
Note: CPA Cleve Entrekin has filed the 990EZ Return for the Park and Violette Denney gave the copy to Rebecca Smith 2-2-2014.
