Confederate Memorial Day event will honor Carroll County’s 194 Confederate Soldiers killed-In-Action.  Their names are inscribed on the polished black granite wall in the Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park on Newnan Road, in Carrollton, Georgia.

The McDaniel-Curtis Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will honor those men Saturday during a Memorial Ceremony.  The program will begin at 11 A. M. and it will feature keynote speaker Robert Carter, A Civil War historian and author of two books about the Battle of Chickamauga.  He has been a student of Civil War history for over 50 years.

He was raised in Chatsworth, Georgia and received both is bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama.  He is retiring this year after 43 years as a high school teacher and band director.

This is our opportunity to honor our ancestors who died bravely defending their homes and families.  Their names are listed alphabetically on the KIA Wall of Honor.  Other veterans beginning with the American Revolution honored on the Walls of Honor are listed on the bronze alphabetical directory near the entrance to the park – the first 12 Walls of Honor are listed on the left and Walls 13-16, Walls 17-20, and Walls 21-24 are alphabetically listed on three plaques on the right.  Remember their sacrifice, bravery, and devotion as they served our country.
