The fifth alphabetical index directory is being installed at
the Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park by Contractor Sam Robinson and his
helper. This bronze plaque contains the
192 Veterans names that appear on Walls of Honor 17 – 20 and it is mounted on
the polished black granite stone near the entrance to the park from the parking
lot. The first three plaques contained a
continuous alphabetical listing of Walls of Honor one through twelve and plaque
number four shows the Veterans names on Walls of Honor 13 – 16. Beside each
name is shown the wall number where the individual plaque is located and the
Walls of Honor have a number inscribed on the end. This makes it much easier to locate your
family member or friend. All these plaques
were manufactured at the East Point Foundry in Atlanta and they are beautiful
works of art and extremely heavy! Currently reservations are being received for
Wall of Honor number 22. Number 21 has
been filled and is in the process of being created and will be installed before
the Veterans Day Program at the Park on November 10, 2012. There are only two more Walls of Honor to be
filled. The decision to stop or expand
the park will need to be made soon. The
park is open 24/7 and is handicap accessible. The next Veterans Park Committee
meeting will be on August 27, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the AG-ED Center, 900 Newnan
Road. Visitors are welcome.
