HUGH LEE YOUNG - 90TH BIRTHDAY

On Sunday, March 10, 2013, Hugh Lee Young celebrated his 90th birthday!  He was honored with this celebration by his family for all his extended family and friends.  He is pictured above reading his cards with his son Dennis and daughter Donna along with a special helper great grandson. The event was held at the Trinka Davis Veterans Village, Community Living Center, 180 Martin Drive, Carrollton, Georgia, where he is currently living.
Young is a charter member of the Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park Committee where he has served in several positions as well as a member of American Legion.  Young served in WW II and flew 27 missions in a B-24 bomber with the 376th Bomber Group, part of the 514th Squadron.  He flew in Africa, Italy, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, Austria, and Albania (The average lifespan of a ball turret gunner is three missions.)  During his 27th mission, on December 28, 1943, his plane was shot down over Italy, he parachuted out of the plane and was captured by German soldiers and was sent to a POW camp, Stalag 17, in Austria, where he remained for 18 months.  He weighed 160 when he was captured and 115 pounds when he was liberated, three days after the war ended.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUGH LEE!

Quite happy seeing your 90th birthday celebration. This post reminds me of my grand mom's birthday next month. Thinking to have a dinner at one of the centrally located Chicago venues with all our dear ones. Her favorite caramel fondant cake with quality drinks will be ordered from reputed places. Hope she feels special having everyone near her on her big day.
