CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL CEREMONY AT THE PARK

On Saturday, April 25, 2015, the McDaniel-Curtis Camp 165, Sons of Confederate Veterans, held its 26th annual Confederate Memorial service at the CCVMP.  The ceremonies consisted of the traditional wreath laying, musket firing and taps.  The wreath was placed in front on the Killed-In-Action Wall which has 191 names of men killed in that war.

Commander of the local SCV camp, Sam Pyle, said, “The local camp has about 50 members who meet once a month at its headquarters in the Carroll County Veterans Building on Stripling Chapel Road in Carrollton.”  He also explained that their name came from two local confederate soldiers.  Charles A. McDaniel (minister and teacher at Bowdon College) and Col. William Ezra Curtis (buried in the Carrollton City Cemetery facing north as requested-facing the enemy).  Both these men died in combat during the U. S. Civil War.
