WW II VETERANS HONORED

On Saturday, November 8, 2014 the CCVMP Committee planned a Veteran's Day Program to honor our veterans especially those that served during WW II. 105 were located, contacted, and invited to attend.

Barry Gardner, LTC USA, Ret. welcomed everyone and presided during the ceremony.

Chaplain Will Smith offered the prayer.

The Carrollton High School JROTC presented the Colors.

Carlos Fuller, Jim Pack, Frank Searcy, and Tom Carrere lead the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag.

Angie Hawksworth sang the National Anthem and God Bless America with the entire assembly joining in singing God Bless America.

Congressman Lynn Westmoreland was the keynote Speaker for the event and honored the "Greatest Generation" reminding everyone that without them the entire world would be different!
Congressman Westmoreland brought four of his seven grandchildren to witness this special gathering of WW II Veterans.  He wanted them to know about the sacrifices that were made to provide this free country where the American Dream is possible.

Bob Miller and friend played  Amazing Grace on the Bag Pipes.

Members of the JROTC from Carrollton High School were honored with the Laying of the Memorial Wreath.

The Rifle Squad from American Legion Post 143 fired volleys follow by "Taps."  The Veterans were thanked again for making the effort to come and for their service and sacrifices.  Expressions of gratitude were made to the many individuals and groups who supported the service with their time, talents, and equipment.

Sam Pyle displayed some of his relics and they were touched by many veterans as they reminisced about their days of active duty.

Dale Robinson stands by the uniform that his father wore during he time in the military.

Dale Robinson is holding one of his guns which was part of his display - actually he would let you hold it!  Many did which brought back lots of memories.

Bill Maddox stands beside a big truck from the WW II area while wearing his father's WW II uniform.
The WW II jeep was a favorite with the children - they all had to drive just for a little while!

Barry Gardner (left) is probably thanking Daniel Jackson, from the Chamber of Commerce,  for an outstanding job well done with the speaker system.  Everyone could hear very well!
Program Chairman (and President of American Legion Post 143) Ronnie Pate (left), President Don Levans (center) and Eddie Asberry, American Legion 5th District Commander were having a little discussion after the ceremony.

Annette is seated with her veteran husband, Henry D. Tyson, Sr. - USA/Europe.

Congressman Lynn Westmoreland standing behind Mr. Chambers - USN/Atlantic - for a picture.

Frank Scott - USMC/Pacific - enjoyed the ceremony with his pretty wife Edna.
Bruce Holly and wife Rose are all smiles while enjoying the sunshine waiting for the program to start.  Seated behind Bruce is Annie Smith, wife of Chaplain Smith.

Carlos - USMC/Pacific - and Ruth Fuller walked around to view the displays after the ceremony.

Thanks for attending the ceremony to honor the "Greatest Generation" and we all are so grateful for the perfect weather conditions.  Visit the park again soon - new things are happening almost weekly!  It is a wonderful place to remember the men and women who served and sacrificed so much to keep our country free.
GOD BLESS AMERICA
