AMERICANS IN WWI PROGRAM AT UWG - 10-22 THROUGH 11-16-2018

The UWG Ingram Library's Penelope Melson Society is hosting a showing of World War I historical documents and memorabilia beginning October 22 and ending November 16, 2018.  On Monday October 25 at 11:00 a.m. they are sponsoring a talk by DR Jennifer Keene, Professor of History.
Chapman University.

Jennifer D. Keene is a specialist in American military experience during World War I.  She is currently President of the Society of Military History. She has published three books on the American involvement in the First World War: Doughboys, the Great War and the Remaking of America (2001), World War I: The American Soldier Experience (2011), and The United States and the First World War (2000).  She is also the lead author for an American history textbook, Visions of America: A History of the United States that uses a visual approach to teaching students U.S. history. She has received numerous awards for her scholarship.

This is a wonderful event to "cap off" our three year attempt to bring the WWI Centennial to the attention of our citizens.

               2015 CCVMP begins including events leading up to WWI in our Memorial Day Events

               2016 - Genealogical Society begins Collecting WWI Memorabilia -- And searching for WWI Discharge papers

               Feb 2016 - DR Steve Goodson addressed the Genealogical Society on Carroll County involvement in WWI

                May 2017- CCVMP invites Historian/Actor David Shuey to speak at Memorial Day Event as General Pershing

               May 2018 - CCVMP has Mr Shury return for a second speech as General Pershing

               July 2018 - Genealogical Society places the discharge records of over 2000 Carroll County WWI Veteran on it's website (ccgsga.org)

                October 2018 -  UWG Library and the Penelope Melson Society have DR Keene as speaker

                November 11, 2018 - National Centennial Commission conducting a NATION WIDE "Bell of Peace" program asking that bell be rung "from every steeple"  at the 11th hour -- on the 11th day of the 11th month exactly 100 years (to the minute) since the signing of the Armistice.
